Plugin: Check Data Integrity version 1.0.4 README file (c) Dogmelon Pty Ltd 19 July 2006 ------------------------------ Installation ------------------------------ Copy the plugin into your {Note Studio install}\plugin directory. You will have to restart Note Studio to see the plugin. ------------------------------ Running the Plugin ------------------------------ The plugin will be listed in your 'Tools/Plugins' menu. The plugin's name is 'Check Data Integrity'. You must be in Library view to run the plugin. The plugin will analyse all of your collections. When you run the plugin, it will show a startup window, reporting the version number of this plugin. This will be important if this diagnostic tool gets updated. The plugin will then take some time to run. You will see a waiting cursor while the plugin is running. Because it looks carefully at all your data, it may take a while to run (eg a minute or more). This depends on the speed of your system, and the amount of data you have in your library. The plugin only looks at your data. It does not modify it in any way. When the plugin finishes, it will show another dialog, reporting that it has finished. In addition, it will report one of two outcomes: a) no problems were found with your data b) a problem was found Finding a problem is not necessarily a disaster, this tool is very fussy about what it decides is a problem. It writes a log file, containing the results of the diagnosis, in 'C:\diagnostic_output.txt' ------------------------------ Interpreting the Results ------------------------------ The diagnostic_output.txt file contains two parts: a) Important Logging Info b) Details Any problems are recorded in the 'Important' section, at the top of the file. The 'Details' section is more to help Dogmelon engineers get more details, if required. If the plugin reports a problem, you can either: - email the diagnostic_output.txt file to support@dogmelon.com.au, or - try to fix the problem yourself. We only recommend fixing the problem yourself if you feel comfortable that you understand what the log file is telling you, and you consider yourself to be technical. Of course, you should back up your data before attempting to fix any problems. If you do attempt to fix any issues yourself, you can keep running the plugin until it reports that there are no more problems with your data. Then you should do a one-way overwrite, Desktop overwriting your Handheld. This should ensure you have good data. You may want to run this plugin periodically (eg once per month) to make sure it stays clean.
