good news...turning off the Tip of the Day and then restarting sorted out all my greyed menu issues
here's the next ticket I have submitted to the esupport system...
has anyone on the forum had this??
----
on my MacBook (2gig core duo laptop with 2 gig ram) Note Studio is running way too slowly - it feels on the edge of crashing....
when I scroll down a decent sized page in Edit mode..it's fine...but when not in edit mode it hangs and beachballs and generally gets upset
any ideas? |

I can confirm this issue, and I suspect the reason is that NoteStudio is a PowerPC binary.
In case you're not up to speed on the distinction, Apple made major changes to the hardware in its machines within the last couple of years. One effect of this change is that older software has to be translated on-the-fly for the new architecture. This slows it down quite a bit.
If this is indeed the issue, the solution would be for dogMelon to release a new, "universal binary" version. I'm hoping 3.4 will be universal, but I have no inside knowledge |

Thanks Baricom
yes that sounds exactly right...rather like Word currently has to translate everything on the fly (using Rosetta is it?)
does anyone know whether the next release will be universal binary?
I'll see what the e-ticket brings up |

just got this news from the esupport system - here's my reply
Thanks Dan
oh yes have done reboots and restarts and maxed out my ram - still running v slowly
tbh it is a bit of a deal breaker on intel macs at the moment...hope the improvements on NS aren't too far in the future
It's a fabulous programme and I really want to be able to recommend it to all my clients
I know you are busy - good luck!

Hi Piers
Firstly, have you tried a reboot? I often find my mac ( an ibook g4) goes a lot faster when I reboot every now and then.
We're working on improving NS on intel macs for a future version. At the moment I'm not aware of any ways to speed it up.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Dan
