Note Studio

User Profile:Tony - August 2004

I currently run Note Studio (NS) on a PalmOne Zire (OS5.2.1) which is connected to a Palm Portable Keyboard whilst composing this message on my 'inbox' homepage of NS. Being a long time Palm OS user and former Palm User Group coordinator, I discovered NS on PalmGear while researching new applications for my old Treo.

I had previously took a hiatus from  using a Palm in favor of a Danger Sidekick smartphone. NS was a refreshing welcome back to the Palm world. It fit the model of Zen-like simplicity with its ability to dynamically transform content to something meanful in context with other links. I must admit I did try out WikiWorld in the early days, but found the wiki syntax too unnatural. I was frustrated by the lack of dependable linking software for the Palm. NS fit the bill with its integrated form and ease of use. I mainly use NS for David Allen's Getting Things Done method of productivity workflow.

Context pages serve as anchors for next actions and open project loops. Tags are placed in pages to serve as a category function giving context to a given project or reference. NS backlinks draw a list of pages in context with projects or category tags. Using NS is one grand linking fest as it has replaced my outliner app for GtD . I also use NS as a journal, replacing  a popular journal application. Dates are turned to links and daily activities are recorded for an archive of accomplishments or later retrieval for recollection.

Blog writing is given a boost. NS becomes a personal blog. I maintain a page of blog entries and ideas are easily linked to other reference material gathered from the NS desktop side. Cut and paste to versamail and the NS page is published.

Since NS serves as a text editor, 3rd party desk accessories, word completion, and boilerplate insertion apps partner

well.

All in all, keeping a Note Studio notebook is a fun and rewarding experience.
