RELEASE NOTES
version 3.1.0
23 Sept 2005
------------
Installation
------------
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have already upgraded your data from version 2, then when the installer asks if you are upgrading from
version 2.0.x, you MUST select 'No'. Otherwise your 3.0 data will be overwritten.
1. Make sure that there are no un-synched changes on your Palm
2. Make sure Note Studio is not running.
3. Make sure your data is backed up (this will happen automatically if you answer 'yes' to a backup when closing Note Studio).
4. Run the installer. NoteStudio 3.1.0 can be installed straight over the top of 3.0.0.
5. Answer 'No' when asked if you're upgrading from 2.0.x (unless you haven't upgraded from version 2 yet)
6. Run Note Studio
7. Check that you can see all your data as expected
8. Synch with your Palm TWICE (x2), with the conduit set to one-way synch (Desktop overwrites Handheld).
---------------------
What is new in 3.1.0?
---------------------
3.1.0 is a fairly major release. We have fixed a lot of problems that were reported in 3.0, and there are some new features
as well.
Conduit Changes:
- fixed some problems with one-way and two-way synching
- PC conduit - logs error codes if any are encountered
- Mac: better support for Missing Sync
General Changes:
- new pages do not have '_Page' in their name by default
- can use inter-book links to create new page in another book, like you could in version 2
- new syntax, underline, using '_' character
- back history across books works better
Palm Changes:
- fixed global find problem
Desktop Changes:
- Added a Page Organization Tool, which lets you rearrange your books easier
- Ctrl-A can Select All in View Mode
- newer version of Mozilla browser removes some graphical artifacts
- fixed some refresh bugs
- limit of number of books in library is increased from 34 to 40
- ctrl-i for italic, equivalent to ctrl-b for bold.
- help file is updated
- internationalization: regional character set support. Can change which character encoding is used to view text.
- more robust Create Collection dialog
- control over backup-on-shutdown behaviour.
- don't lock pages when editing, unless they are in a shared collection
- reduced firewall problems
- can pass in a command line argument to use a different directory as your base dir. This should mean you can run NS from a USB key - but not tested yet.
What we didn't have time to fix, after saying we would:
- fixing the bullet & numbering changes since 2.0

in your iki.ini file, you can have a new section:

backup_location: allows you to set where backups are made
backup: allows you to choose dialog behaviour
ASK: current behaviour. Ask if you want to backup.
YES: automatically (and quietly) backup to location
NO: automatically (and quietly) do not backup
