Note Studio GTD Refresher
12. What Next?
You want to set up your own GTD system. So, where do you go from here?
This document should have refreshed your mind about the main aspects of GTD, and explained how Note Studio can be used to
implement various parts of a GTD system.
About David Allen's Products
If you haven't already, I seriously recommend going to the source. Dave Allen is the creator of GTD, and has some excellent
material to help you master Getting Things Done.
- David Allen's Official Website
- Book: Getting Things Done - The Art of Stress-Free Productivity
- Audio CD: Getting Things Done - The Art of Stress-Free Productivity (ABRIDGED)
The book gave me a good start, but I also found the Audio CD very useful. It's not just someone reading the contents of the
book.
It's like sitting in a seminar led by David Allen. He goes into a lot more detail, and he gives many more real-life example,
than the book is able to do. So I found the Audio CD a very useful addition.
Therefore I recommend getting both the book and the audio CD.
Setting Up Your Own System
When it comes to setting up your own GTD system, David Allen deliberately doesn't recommend any particular method. You might
prefer a paper-based system, a computer based system, or a PDA-based system.
On his audio CD, David Allen says that he uses a Palm PDA device. The built-in PDA software (applications like Memo) is sufficient
for him to use his PDA as a capture tool, and for managing next actions.
If you want a bit more power and flexibility, we recommend Note Studio, which is available on Palm, PC and Mac OSX. A lot of people find that it is ideal for organising a GTD system. Much of this
site is dedicated to explaining Note Studio and GTD.
Interestingly, we didn't design Note Studio for GTD. We designed it for other purposes, then people started writing to us
saying "Hey, your software is great for doing GTD!" We would write back asking "What are you talking about - what's GTD?"
That's how I personally learnt about GTD - now I'm a convert!
We have two intentions with this site:
- that this site will help spread the word about Getting Things Done, and
- that if you choose to implement a system with Note Studio, this site will give you all the information you need in one easy place.
Good luck!
